Responsive to the needs of today and responsible for meeting the needs of tomorrow, urban water leaders are forced to make bold, sustainable decisions that embrace innovation to enhance how we meet our core missions. It is imperative that those on the cutting edge network and collaborate to advance the best practices. In its third annual event, the Urban Water Sustainability Leadership Conference will challenge the environmental, technical, municipal and educational communities to think differently about sustainably managing limited urban water resources and resource recovery innovation. The conference has become the focal point for the national dialogue on resource recovery and green infrastructure. Join us on October 15-17 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Spotlight Cities
As in past years, at least five cities will be “spotlighted.” Each city team will highlight municipal leaders from different agencies, as well as, feature important partners from business and nonprofit community organizations. Sidebar Conversations will be organized to address and strategize specific obstacles or barriers. Leaders from the fields of philanthropy, water, sustainability, infrastructure, planning, politics and science will meet to share ideas, experiences and specific strategies for creating green, sustainable cities. In addition, there will be a special session on Resource Recovery to explore cutting edge innovations that foster water sustainability and a triple bottom line serving the environment, the economy, and our communities socially.
Leadership
The Leadership Conference is organized by the Alliance’s Urban Water Sustainability Council which was initiated by Howard Neukrug (Philadelphia Water Commissioner) and is currently chaired by Kevin Shafer, Executive Director of Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. The Council’s membership a network of thoughtful leaders with a full appreciation for the value of integrated water management; “green” water policies and practices; and the resource value in wastewater. The vision of these leaders is to make green infrastructure the centerpiece of the urban water world while practicing resource recovery methods to meet the sustainability goals of their communities.
